Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs seeks an Aide II/III/IV to provide instructional and classroom support in a school setting. The employee shall remain free of alcohol and non-prescribed drugs while in the workplace.

Staff members serve as role models and help instill ethical principles and democratic values. The role requires completing WVBE-approved training or possessing a high school diploma/ GED, with eligibility for advancement to higher aide classifications.

Qualifications

• Must be or have been classified as an Aide, or must pass the state-prescribed exam for this position per West Virginia Code §18A-4-8e
• Criminal background check per WV Code §18-5-15c

Responsibilities

• Provide individual or small group instruction under the supervision of a teacher
• Provide students with individual attention
• Set up and operate equipment for instruction
• Help the teacher prepare materials for instruction
• Assist with escorting students to and from the bus
• Assist identified students in transit to and from the school and residence
• Provide library, art, music, and physical education assistance to students
• Assist with preparing snacks for students as needed
• Remain aware and alert of medication administered to students
• Assist in lifting, feeding, toileting, and changing clothes of special needs students
• Assist and supervise special needs students in a classroom setting
• Modify materials and instructional activities as per IEP and teacher requests
• Secure students in car seats and wheelchair during transport
• Carry out exercises prescribed by therapists
• Practice good safety habits and maintain confidentiality of student information
• Maintain a neat and orderly environment conducive to learning
• Assist in supervising children in various school locations
• Read to students and participate in oral communication with students
• Assist with emergency management and evacuation procedures
• Attend first aid classes to maintain certification
