Job summary

Community Education / EDP, West Windsor, New Jersey, seeks an EDP 1 to 1 Instructional Assistant for the after-school program. This part-time role supports students with disabilities through enrichment, recreation, and academic activities in a structured setting.

The incumbent will implement accommodations per IEPs/504 Plans, promote inclusive interactions, and assist with transitions and supervision across spaces. A high school diploma and child development-related coursework are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or training in special education, child development, or a related field preferred.
• Experience working with children with disabilities in educational or recreational settings strongly preferred.
• Understanding of positive behavior support strategies and inclusive practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; patience, empathy, and calmness in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct support to students with special needs during after-school activities, including enrichment, recreation, and homework time.
• Implement accommodations and behavior support strategies as outlined in IEPs or 504 Plans.
• Facilitate positive social interactions among students and encourage inclusive play and participation.
• Assist with transitions between activities and provide supervision in classrooms, playgrounds, and common areas.
• Support students with personal care needs when required.
• Communicate regularly with after-school staff and families about student progress or concerns.
• Monitor and record student behaviors and support implementation of behavioral intervention plans.
