Job summary

Chess Wizards is seeking enthusiastic instructors to join our after-school enrichment program in Hillsboro, OR. You will lead fun chess classes for elementary students using a structured curriculum, promoting sportsmanship and problem-solving.

Great fit for someone reliable with transportation who can teach 1–5 classes weekly, typically 2:00–5:00 PM at various local schools and 6:00–7:00 PM window. Training provided, flexible side-hustle with pay per class.

Qualifications

• Experience working with groups of children (teaching, tutoring, coaching, camp counseling, or similar).
• Comfort leading a class independently and creating interactive, friendly, and fun sessions.
• Professional, positive, and kid-friendly demeanor.
• Genuine desire to be a positive role model and promote good sportsmanship.
• Strong grasp of chess fundamentals and ability to explain piece movement, basic strategy, and simple tactics.
• Ability to connect chess problem-solving to real-life problem-solving.
• Reliable personal transportation and ability to drive between locations.
• Availability on weekday afternoons with 6:00 PM–7:00 PM start times for 1–5 classes per week.
• Commitment to school safety protocols and ability to supervise independently.
• Strong punctuality and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead fun, interactive chess classes for 10-15 elementary students.
• Use our structured curriculum to teach chess fundamentals and sportsmanship.
• Manage a lively classroom with confidence and positivity.
• Encourage problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.
• Follow school safety protocols and supervise during arrival, dismissal, and in-class activities.
• Travel to various local school sites for each session.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and ready to engage students.
