POSITION SUMMARY: Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.2. Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.3. Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities. All children should be supervised at all times.4. Provide leadership and guidance for a specific group of children.5. Prepare and set up for group activities and clean up after activity is complete.6. Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.7. Provide growth development opportunities for each child.8. Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.9. Maintains program site and equipment.10. Maintains required program records.11. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.12. Report all problems and be familiar with procedures for reporting problems and incidents.13. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.14. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.15. Ensure all program participants are safe and follow all rules and regulations set in place by the YMCA ofMetropolitan Columbus, GA. Report any unsafe acts. Be familiar with handling problems & incidents andprocedures for reporting problems and incidents.16. Report to work at least 5-10 minutes before your scheduled reporting time and do not leave unless givenpermission by direct supervisor, Program Director, or Branch Manager. Do not clock in more than 5 minutesbefore you are scheduled to start your shift.17. Receiving money from members, guests or program participants is strictly prohibited. All money should bereceipted in through the Front Desk.18. Phone calls, cell phone usage, texting, Social sites are all strictly prohibited while on the clock. Cell phones shouldremain out of site at all times.19. Provide an enjoyable experience for each child.20. Set a good example in promptness, manners, language, loyalty, appearance and good habits.21. Set a good example in respect and care of the YMCA organization, facilities, equipment and property at all times.22. Professionalism is a MUST. Treat everyone, including children, with dignity and respect.23. Assist in keeping program areas clean, making sure there is no food or drinks left in the program area, cleantables, chairs, etc.24. Never assume anything as it relates to staff, children or parents.25. Never discuss your personal business or YMCA personnel matters with children, program participants or parents.26. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required toperform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.QUALIFICATIONS:• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.• At least 18 years of age.• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.• Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationshipswith people from different backgrounds.• Must be able to follow instructions well and work well with others.• Must have a high level of patience and tolerance and be able to work with children.• Should have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others and be willing tofulfill responsibilities in accordance with program goals.• Must have emotional maturity, good moral character, common sense and integrity.• Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.• Good communication skills.• Math, reading and computer skills preferred.WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:• Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities.• Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in awide variety of indoor and outdoor locations.
