Job summary

YMCA of Youngstown is seeking an After School/Off School Program Staff member in Boardman, OH. The role supports youth-focused programming in a safe classroom setting, delivering quality experiences aligned with YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith.

You will implement lesson plans, engage children and families, supervise staff and volunteers, and ensure program quality and safety while supporting marketing and fundraising efforts.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age with previous experience working with children.
  • CDA certificate, degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, or school age endorsement.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to work well with students and parents and be fun, energetic, creative and enthusiastic.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • Requirements upon hire include completion of: Child Abuse Prevention, Anti-Harassment, Blood Borne Pathogens, New Staff Orientation, CPR/AED, First Aid, and YMCA Leader certification.
  • Additional requirements include: employee shot records, FBI/BCI&I fingerprints, Communicable Disease and additional child protection trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Create and implement lesson plans aligned with Step Up to Quality requirements, support program quality, planning, registration, delivery, data collection and improvement.
  • Provide top-notch member service and supervise in a classroom setting to ensure a safe, pleasant environment.
  • Lead staff and volunteers in developing a culture of service and engagement.
  • Maintain facility cleanliness and report maintenance needs.
  • Follow YMCA policies on safety and emergencies; complete incident reports.
  • Support YMCA fundraising activities and participation in campaigns.
  • Assist Marketing with distribution of program information and materials.

Schedule: 20-25 hours a week; M-F 1:30-6pm

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for providing direct supervision for a safe, pleasant, secure environment and top-notch member service in a classroom setting. Responsibilities include providing a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • PROGRAM MANAGEMENT- Create and implement lesson plans aligned with Step Up to Quality requirements, support program quality, planning, registration, delivery, data collection and improvement; monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs.
  • MEMBER SERVICE & ENGAGEMENT-Act intentionally to connect people with the Y cause through our service and engagement principles; Welcome, Connect, Support, Invite. Lead staff and volunteers in developing a culture of service and engagement.
  • FACILITY- Keeps work area and equipment clean and functionable. Records and reports all needed maintenance or repairs. Records and reports all needed maintenance or repairs.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT- Knowledgeable of and follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to facility use, medical, disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies; complete Incident Reports.
  • BUDGET-Is a good steward of Y's resources, uses resources responsibly and sustains the Y's nonprofit business model to ensure revenue/expense and program services goals are achieved.
  • ANNUAL CAMPAIGN-Supports YMCA fundraising activities and special events.
  • MARKETING-supports the work of the Marketing Team for marketing and distribution of YMCA branded program information and YMCA collateral; follows all marketing procedures and policies.
  • RELATIONSHIP BUILDING-Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member inquiries, emails, messages and complaints in timely manner.
  • Maintains required certifications, attends all in-services and required trainings/meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
