Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a passionate African Drum Specialist to teach and promote interest in African drumming within after-school programs in New York City public schools. You will organize performances, collaborate with teachers, and adapt lessons to fit the state standards while engaging students in creative musical activities.

The role requires 9–15 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, 2:30 pm–5:30 pm, with safety clearances through DOE/DOH and interaction with the school community.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent; some college preferred.
• Minimum one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience.
• Minimum one year of teaching experience.
• Passion for New York Edge's mission and youth development.
• Candidates who can lead instruction in more than one activity are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach the art of playing African Drums and lead rehearsals.
• Organize performance groups and direct rehearsals.
• Follow curriculum and meet lesson objectives.
• Create safe, engaging class environments in NYC public schools.
• Interact with staff, students, parents and administration.
