Job summary

New York Edge is seeking a part-time Music Specialist in Queens Village to organize, lead, and promote music activities for students using the New York State Arts Learning Standards. You will follow a curriculum, develop engaging lessons, and foster participation in after-school and school programs.

The role requires strong communication, reliability, and the ability to adapt activities to diverse youth while ensuring safety and collaboration with school staff and families.

Qualifications

• Must be knowledgeable in various performing arts and able to teach youth.
• Must be able to follow a curriculum.
• Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• May be required to lift or move objects/materials.
• Work is performed mostly within a New York City Public School.

Responsibilities

• Establish rules for behavior and maintain order.
• Organize, lead, and promote interest in music activities.
• Direct performance groups and rehearsals.
• Set objectives for lessons and communicate them to students.
• Adapt activities to meet students' needs.
• Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
• Explain principles, techniques, and safety procedures.
• Evaluate activities to determine if desired results are produced.
• Progress student skills toward a final project.
