Job summary

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Design air-cooled heat exchangers per customer specifications, American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), American Petroleum Institute (API) 661, American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE), and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) Codes and Standards.
  • Prepare design calculations and customer drawings for the above scope of work. This includes calculations for box headers, structural loads and steel member strength; creating the tube layout, generating detailed box header drawings, designing the fan drive, generating bundle and plan & elevation drawings, and generating weld inspection maps.
  • Communicate with sales, customer, shop and detail drafters.
  • Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on–site, ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others, ability to deal respectfully with the public, customers, vendors, other employees, managers, and executive management.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) from four-year college or university, or a minimum of 10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good drafting skills.
  • Computer skills must include Windows, AutoCAD (or equivalent), Inventor (or equivalent), MathCAD, Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Willing and able to learn CALQLYS (internal air cooler design software).
  • Knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineering, Boiler Pressure Vessel Code (Section VIII, Division 1), American Petroleum Institute (API) 661, American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) and American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).
  • General knowledge of welded steel fabrication practices.
Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals in English. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
