Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, test, and flight qualification of advanced spaceborne payloads. The Unit Lead will drive technical definition and execution for Ka-band AESAs, coordinating RF, digital, power, mechanical, and software teams in a fast-paced startup setting.

Responsibilities include end-to-end box development, environmental qualification, and transition to production with clear documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of engineering experience in electronics hardware development.
• Hands-on experience with active phased array antennas.
• Expertise in antennas and board-level RF electronics.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the AESA Unit Lead and primary technical contact for the box lifecycle.
• Lead end-to-end engineering: architecture, design, prototyping, integration, testing, qualification.
• Coordinate RF, digital, power, mechanical, thermal, software, and systems engineers.
• Maintain schedule accountability for the box development.
• Develop payload control schemes, interfaces, and firmware integration as needed.
• Manage flight qualification activities, environmental tests, and acceptance testing.
• Oversee transition to volume production, manufacturability and customer-facing docs.
• Create and maintain box-level docs: requirements, ICDs, diagrams, test plans, risk registers.
• Interface with spacecraft systems engineering, mission assurance, and vendors.
• Drive root-cause analysis, risk mitigation, and technical decisions.
• Communicate status and design tradeoffs to leadership and customers.
