Job summary

Zone 5 Technologies in California seeks an on-site early-career Technical Writer II to create and maintain high-quality documentation for our Unpiloted Aerial Systems. The ideal candidate has aerospace/defense documentation background and translates technical subject matter into clear, user-friendly materials.

You will collaborate with engineers, technical program managers, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to ensure content meets industry standards and supports certifications and audits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Communications, or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience as a technical writer with aerospace, manufacturing, or defense documentation experience.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication, ability to explain technical information clearly.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under deadlines.
• Exposure to MadCap Flare and Git; experience creating visuals with Composer, Visio, PowerPoint, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
• U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Plan, write, and maintain technical documentation for aerospace systems and products (manuals, specs, procedures, reports, compliance).
• Collaborate with engineers, software developers, system engineers, and program managers to ensure content accuracy.
• Translate engineering data (CAD models, BOMs, test results) into user-friendly manuals and documentation.
• Work with a team of technical writers to produce rigorous, clear, compliant documents.
• Produce technical illustrations and visuals to aid understanding of aerospace systems and workflows.
• Manage documentation repositories and ensure updated versions are available to stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace standards/regulations (AS9100, FAA, ITAR) and defense documentation standards (MIL-STD-38784).
• Coordinate with QA and regulatory teams to prepare documents for certifications and audits.
• Continuously improve documentation processes to meet evolving needs.
