Job summary

Shield AI is seeking a Systems Integration Engineer to own the design, installation, and integration of aircraft systems across disciplines. You will deliver manufacturable, maintainable, and reliable hardware while collaborating with engineering teams to solve integration challenges.

The role requires hands‑on experience with machined, fabricated, composite, and sheet metal components, 3D CAD modeling, and detailed installation drawings, supporting prototype builds and production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3+ years designing and integrating mechanical systems for aerospace, defense, robotics, or automotive sectors.
• Experience designing machined, fabricated, composite, and sheet metal components from concept to production release.
• Proficient in 3D CAD modeling and producing installation layouts and detailed drawings.
• Experience managing engineering data and BOMs in PLM systems like Teamcenter, Windchill, or 3DEXPERIENCE.
• Knowledge of aircraft installation practices and subsystem packaging.
• Familiarity with GD&T ASME Y14.5 and tolerance stack‑ups.
• Experience supporting prototype builds, production, and issue resolution.
• Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Experience coordinating with Manufacturing, Systems Eng, Quality, and Supply Chain.
• Familiarity with FAA/DoD standards and aerospace design practices.
• Mentoring interns or junior engineers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Independently design machined, fabricated, composite, and sheet metal components for aircraft applications.
• Develop aircraft installation layouts optimizing packaging, access, serviceability, and weight.
• Design routing for EWIS, hydraulics, fuel, pneumatics, and ECS systems with interfaces in structures.
• Create detailed drawings and installation documentation per drafting standards.
• Maintain CAD assemblies, product structures, BOMs, and releases in PLM systems.
• Apply GD&T and perform tolerance stack‑ups for manufacturability.
• Support prototype builds, production integration and issue resolution.
• Investigate installation issues via root‑cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate avionics and other subsystems.
