Job summary

CesiumAstro is seeking an Associate Manager of Software Engineering to lead a team developing software for aerospace systems and mission-critical applications. You will provide day-to-day leadership, technical guidance, and performance management while aligning work with requirements, quality standards, and schedules.

The role partners with systems, hardware, and product leadership to ensure program objectives are met, with emphasis on continuous process improvement and strong team development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software/Computer/Electrical/Aerospace or related technical discipline.
• 4-7 years of relevant software engineering experience with at least 1 year in leadership roles.
• Experience leading software development teams in aerospace, defense, or highly regulated industries.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, software architecture, IV&V, configuration management, and secure software development practices.
• Experience with Agile environments using Scrum, DevOps, CI/CD, and tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages (C, C++, Rust, Python) and Git-based workflows.
• Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama or IBM DOORS.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced, changing product development environments.

• Support recruiting, onboarding, workforce planning, and employee development activities.
• Conduct performance reviews and set development goals to improve team performance.
• Ensure compliance with software development processes, configuration management, and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with program management and engineering leadership on planning, resources, risk management, and execution.
• Monitor workload and project progress to ensure delivery of objectives.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and support reviews and milestones.
• Drive continuous improvement of engineering tools, processes, and practices.
