Job summary

TA Aerospace in Santa Clarita, CA is seeking a Project Engineer to lead product and component design from concept through production launch. You will work with Sales, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, R&D, and Project Engineering to ensure on-time delivery of new aerospace products.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, motivated, with strong ownership, excellent communication, and the ability to mentor junior engineers, support customers, and drive continuous improvement of current lines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Industrial Engineering.
  • 3–5 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in aerospace/defense.
  • Proficiency with sheet metal CAD modeling, FEA, and Model Based Definition.
  • Strong GD&T, drawings, specifications, and design documentation skills.
  • Experience developing parts or assemblies from concept to production release.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, failure analysis, qualification testing, and root-cause problem solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; able to explain technical topics clearly.
  • Self-motivated, organized, able to manage multiple projects with minimal supervision.
  • Customer-focus and ability to perform in fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with CATIA V5/3DEXPERIENCE or PLM/PDM, for configuration management.
  • Experience with aerospace hardware design/testing (silicone, elastomer, seals, clamps).
  • Experience reverse engineering aerospace components (dimensional inspection, material evaluation, drawings).
  • Experience supporting supplier development, cost reduction, value engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop product and component designs, CAD models/MBDs, and engineering documentation per requirements.
  • Create and review assembly/detailed drawings, models, and specs for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Initiate internal engineering workflow in PLM and collaborate cross-functionally for on-time completion.
  • Apply DFM and Design for Supply Chain principles in new or improved designs.
  • Serve as design SME for programs and support NPI from concept to production.
  • Lead design reviews, DFMEA, failure analyses, root-cause investigations, and tests.
  • Support Sales/Marketing with technical knowledge and customer discussions.
  • Ensure design activities are documented and controlled per ITAR and internal quality systems.
  • Coordinate with Trade Compliance on export classifications.
