Job summary

Advanced Technologies, Inc. (ATI), an employee-owned company, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Newport News, VA.

The role focuses on leading design of aerospace structures, creating 3D components, and delivering fabrication-ready drawings for both metallic and composite assemblies. The position requires strong hand-calculation skills, tolerance analyses, and the ability to mentor teammates while coordinating with customers and suppliers to move designs from concept through fabrication,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering is required.
• Experience designing metallic/composite assemblies with advanced 3D tools.
• Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic actuation is a plus.
• Familiarity with aerospace materials and strength of materials is beneficial.
• Ability to model and design complex mechanical systems independently.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in analysis of aerospace structures.
• Design 3D components and assemblies using SolidWorks, Rhino, and KeyCreator.
• Create detailed drawings and specifications for fabrication.
• Perform hand-calculations and initial sizing of components.
• Conduct tolerance stack-up analyses for fit and function.
• Collaborate with customers and suppliers through concept to delivery.
• Prepare and present design reviews to customers.
• Generate reports, procedures, and engineering specifications.
• Mentor other engineering/manufacturing team members.
• Coordinate team scheduling to meet program goals.
