Job summary

SMP Engineering, Inc is seeking a Mechanical/Automation Engineer with mid-level experience to join our Aerospace & Defense manufacturing team in Glendale, CA. You will design, develop, and test mechanical and automation systems for high-precision production.

Responsibilities include CAD modeling in SolidWorks, programming PLCs and HMIs, and collaborating with cross-functional groups to prototype, test, and optimize manufacturing processes while ensuring safety and quality compliance.

Qualifications

• B.S in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 3-5 yrs experience in designing and delivering products from concept up to low series - highly complex integrations.
• 3-5 yrs expertise in automation and/or 3D CAD modeling for mechanical design with complex parts and assemblies.
• 3+ yrs of hands-on experience in rapid prototyping, 3D printing, machining, laser-cutting, and CNC lathe.
• Experience with fabrication methods like welding, sheet forming, and die-casting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test mechanical/automation systems and components.
• Create detailed engineering drawings and specifications using CAD software (Solidworks), PLC'S, HMI'S, Python, LABVIEW.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and machinists.
• Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation for custom automation projects.
• Improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control guidelines.
