Job summary

SMP Engineering, Inc is seeking a Mechanical/Automation Engineer (Mid-Level) for its Glendale, CA facility. This on-site role focuses on designing and testing automation systems, producing detailed CAD drawings in SolidWorks, and integrating PLCs/HMI and Python tooling into manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

Job Title: Mechanical/Automation Engineer – Aerospace & Defense/Manufacturing (Mid-Level)

Pay Range: ($38/hr-$50/hr, BOE)

Location: Glendale, CA (100% On-Site)

Job Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test mechanical/automation systems and components.
• Create detailed engineering drawings and specifications using CAD software (Solidworks), PLC'S, HMI'S, Python, LABVIEW.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical, electrical, and machinists.
• Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation for custom automation projects.
• Improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control guidelines.

Qualifications

• B.S in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace-, Automotive-, Robotics- Controls Engineering, or a similar field.
• Academic knowledge of mechanical systems in statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, motion systems, material science, and controls engineering.
• 3-5 yrs experience designing and delivering products from concept up to low series (~10) volume in highly-complex integrations like custom machining, new product development, or aerospace.
• 3-5 yrs expertise in automation and/or 3D CAD modeling for mechanical design with complex parts and assemblies: Solidworks, Python, PLC’s and HMI’s, LABVIEW knowledge is a PLUS!
• 3+ yrs of hands-on experience in rapid prototyping, 3D printing, machining, laser-cutting, and CNC lathe to make product designs a reality.
• Experience with fabrication methods like welding, sheet forming, and die-casting.
