Job summary

FMI is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support carbon/carbon composites production in Maine. You will design and refine equipment, analyze failures, and drive continuous improvement using Lean/Six Sigma, PFMEAs, and GD&T. You’ll document changes, support safety and quality certifications, and collaborate with production and maintenance.

The role offers a choice of shift schedules and a comprehensive benefits package, with a salary range of $80,000–$140,000 depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 8 years of experience in manufacturing.
• Strong problem solving and project coordination skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Comfortable working hands-on in a production environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, specify, and develop new equipment for future production systems.
• Perform root cause analysis for failure investigations and data analysis to drive improvements.
• Collaborate with Production and Maintenance to troubleshoot equipment and processes using Lean/Six Sigma and MRL standards.
• Use engineering tools such as BOM refinement, Design Reviews, PFMEAs, IQ/OQ, Value Stream Maps, and GD&T.
• Provide technical support for a 7x24 manufacturing facility in assigned areas.
• Create and maintain engineering documents (ECOs, procedures, travelers).
• Support non-conformance program and implement preventive actions.
• Prepare periodic reports or presentations for management and customers.
• Ensure health and safety policies are followed.
• Apply quality standards to comply with certification requirements in plant applications.
