JOB TITLE: Design Engineer

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORTS TO: Director, Engineering

Summary

Prepares working plans, detailed drawings, and complete mechanical or electrical drawings of components and assemblies from notes, verbal instructions, and rough or detail sketches for engineering or manufacturing purposes.

Job Functions

• Makes final sketch of proposed drawings, parts lists, checking dimension of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another and relation of various parts to whole structure or project.
• Utilizes knowledge of various machines, engineering practices, mathematics, building materials and other physical sciences to complete drawings.
• Makes any adjustments or changes necessary or desires. Modifies existing documentation per Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s).
• Draws charts for presentations of statistical data. Draws finished designs from sketches. Selects suitable materials and finishes.
• Uses computer‑assisted draftings (CAD) equipment and software.
• Makes engineering computations, writes specifications, and makes adjustments in drawings of specification. Prepares design releases to manufacturing.Verifies completed work, checking dimensions, materials to be used, and quantities.
• Assists engineers in development of complex drawings involving some individual creativeness, application of advanced drafting techniques and knowledge of practical, mechanical and fabrication problems.
• Prepares product cost estimates.

As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.
