Job summary

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a Composite M&P Engineer II to support design, manufacturing, testing and R&D in Briggs, TX. You will focus on nonmetallic materials, including carbon fiber composites and adhesives, evaluating new materials and performing failure analyses.

The role requires engineering collaboration, ability to identify improvement opportunities, and providing timely solutions with minimal supervision at our Briggs site north of Cedar Park. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in polymeric materials research, testing or manufacturing.
• Broad understanding of composite material processes and aerospace applications.
• Travel to customers and Firefly sites up to 10% of time.

Responsibilities

• Research and select composite materials and processes for structural applications on existing or new designs.
• Design, lead and perform material testing and evaluations (microscopy, failure analysis, thermal analysis, mechanical testing).
• Execute characterization and allowable campaigns.
• Develop, implement and maintain materials and processes technical specifications.
• Provide technical support for manufacturing and design teams in non-metallic materials and processes selection and optimization.
• Lead or support material failure analysis and root cause corrective actions (RCCA).
• Provide consulting and support for unplanned critical needs while focusing on quality, reliability and performance.
• Provide guidance, coaching and training to other materials engineering employees and mentors.
• Represent Firefly on industry task groups related to metallic materials and manufacturing (AMS, ASM, Nadcap, SAMPE).
• Develop and implement improved process control using test and NDE results as feedback loop.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering / Polymer Science / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
