Job summary

AeroVironment in Huntsville, AL seeks an Aeromechanical Engineering Intern to support UAV development from concept to prototyping. You will work with experienced engineers on mechanical systems for aerial platforms and gain practical, hands‑on experience in a fast‑paced aerospace environment.

As an intern, you’ll design airframes in SolidWorks, participate in lab testing, and contribute to engineering drawings and documentation.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Exposure to CAD tools such as SolidWorks for 3D modeling and assembly design.
• Foundational understanding of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials.
• Interest in air vehicles, robotics, or electromechanical systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and contribute to team efforts.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of airframe structures for UAV systems.
• Create and modify 3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks.
• Support basic mechanical analysis with guidance from senior engineers.
• Participate in prototype fabrication, 3D printing, and lab testing.
• Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs, and documentation per standards.
• Contribute to technical presentations and design reviews.
• Learn about material selection and system integration.
• Assist with design improvements and troubleshooting.
• Perform other duties to support engineering goals.
