Job summary

RTX Technology Research Center in Connecticut is seeking a technician for the Aero-Thermal Testing Group. You will perform mechanical assembly, install test rigs, and support test facility operations, including pneumatic and hydraulic systems.

The role requires hands-on experience, ability to read blueprints, and adherence to EH&S rules. Flexible scheduling and multi-shift support may be required.

Qualifications

  • AA/AS degree or 2-year post high school training with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in test facility operations and maintenance or flight line maintenance.
  • U.S. Government Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
  • Airframe and Powerplant license or related technical certification preferred.
  • Understanding of experimental test facility operations and troubleshooting.
  • Adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Experience with high-pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to follow experimental test procedures from blueprints/schematics.
  • Hands-on fabrication and machining skills; reading blueprints.
  • Familiarity with ASME piping codes.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
  • Allen Bradley PLC and LabVIEW experience is a plus.
  • Good technical judgment and strong teaming skills.

What You Will Do

The Aero-Thermal Testing Group at RTX Technology Research Center is seeking a technician candidate with experience in mechanical assembly, experimental testing, and test facility operations. The position requires technical skills and hands-on experience in the assembly, instrumentation, installation, modification and troubleshooting of test apparatus and test facility support systems. Activities will include mechanical assembly and installation of test rigs and test facility services such as pneumatic and hydraulic systems, test support operations, and test facility system maintenance. Knowledge and experience in aero compressor turbomachinery and aero component experimental test operations is a plus. Due to the nature of the experimental testing, flexible scheduling and multi-shift test support will be required.

Qualifications
  • AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Qualified candidates with a minimum of 4 years of work experience in test facility operations and maintenance, flight line maintenance or similar technical hands-on experience will be reviewed for this position.
  • U.S. Government Security Clearance or the ability to obtain a clearance.
  • We Prefer Airframe and Powerplant License, Technical School Certificate or Diploma, Skilled Trades Apprenticeship.
  • Demonstrated understanding of experimental test facility operations and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Strict adherence to Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  • Working expertise with high pressure pneumatic (air, nitrogen) and hydraulic (fuel, oil) systems and related components.
  • Ability to follow and execute experimental test procedures.
  • Mechanical assembly, fabrication and machining skills, and the ability to work from blueprints and schematics.
  • Familiarity with ASME piping codes.
  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation such as pressure, flow and temperature measurement devices.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley PLC control systems and LabVIEW is a plus.
  • Experience with electronics, low voltage wiring for instrumentation and controls is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience in the setup and operation of laser-based measurement techniques is a plus.
  • Good technical judgement and strong teaming and communication skills.

The salary range for this role is 43,400 USD - 82,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills. This position is classified as: Onsite. Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.
