Job summary

Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) in Columbus, OH is seeking a Software Developer to design, modify, and support computer applications and reports.

The role involves developing using Adobe Experience Manager, .NET (C#/VB), Java, and SQL, writing tests, debugging, documenting changes, and collaborating with developers, infrastructure teams, and stakeholders to deliver reliable software solutions.

Qualifications

  • 36 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
  • Or completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; 18 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology as specified by the agency position description & job posting.
  • Or completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; 12 mos. combined work experience in any combination of the following: developing and/or modifying programs for computer applications, performing testing and debugging and assisting with analysis and design including 12 mos. work experience in the primary technology specified by the agency in the position description & job posting.

Responsibilities

  • Software Development & Modification
  • Develop and modify software programs and correspondence templates using Adobe Experience Manager (AEM), .NET (C#/VB), Java, SQL, and related tools.
  • Read, write, extract, and generate reports from complex data files.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance
  • Create and execute unit and system test cases; prepare test data and verify results.
  • Debug and revise programs to resolve defects and ensure desired functionality.
  • Analysis & Design Support
  • Assist in gathering business requirements, defining problems, and developing technical solutions.
  • Support test planning, defect tracking, user acceptance testing, and deployment activities.
  • Documentation & Standards
  • Create and update technical documentation, including use cases, code comments, and training materials.
  • Assist in documenting development lifecycle activities following BWC standards.
  • Technical Communication & Collaboration
  • Participate in discussions to exchange technical information with developers, infrastructure teams, and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Provide written and verbal summaries to support development tasks and project communication.
  • Production Support & Continuous Learning
  • Assist with post‑production support, troubleshooting application issues, and implementing enhancements.
  • Maintain knowledge of current technologies through training and self‑directed learning.
