Job summary

Upper Valley Career Center in Piqua, Ohio is seeking part-time AE PLC instructors to teach Rockwell PLC fundamentals with hands-on lab equipment. Classes may be at local companies or at the Adult Technology Center, daytime or evening, up to 40 hours over 4-5 weeks.

The instructor will design activities aligned with program objectives, guide student learning, assess progress, and coordinate with employers to provide real-world experiences.

Qualifications

• 5 years' work experience in field of expertise OR a degree in field with PLC experience.
• Experience with Studio 5000, RSLinx Classic, CCW, and HMIs; live skills demonstration in interview.
• Experience with setting up motor controls and VFDs; Siemens PLC experience is a plus.
• Holds or can obtain Ohio State Board of Education Adult Education Permit; background checks; drug-free workplace compliance.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates student learning activities and teamwork; reinforces employability skills.
• Develops lesson plans for classroom and lab settings for adult learners.
• Monitors student progress using formal and informal assessments.
• Coordinates with employers to provide real-world experiences for students.
• Prepares students for industry credential assessments.

General Job Description:

Part-time Instructors needed. Instructors will teach the fundamentals of Rockwell Programmable Logic Controllers by using hands‑on lab equipment. Daytime classes could involve training delivered at local companies or could be delivered at the Adult Technology Center (ATC). Evening classes are delivered at the ATC. Classes could be up to 40 hours of instructional delivery over the course of 4-5 weeks.

The instructor will provide instructional activities which are consistent with the program objectives and academic standards adopted and established by the Upper Valley Career Center and the State of Ohio. The instructor will direct the learning experiences of the students, including skill development, human relations, and leadership qualities which are necessary to obtain gainful employment. The instructor will perform in such a manner to ensure the best education possible for the students of the Upper Valley Career Center.

• Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork, positive peer relationships and reinforces employability skills essential to today's workforce.
• Develops lesson plans that engage adult student learning in both the classroom and laboratory setting.
• Monitors student progress using formal and informal assessment strategies.
• Coordinates with employers to provide real world experiences and opportunities for students.
• Prepares students for industry credential assessments.
• Assists program coordinator with curriculum development, course scheduling and Program Advisory Committee meetings.

Qualifications

• 5 years' work experience in field of expertise OR Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's Degree in field of expertise plus 3 years' work experience in a manufacturing profession with PLC experience.
• Experience with Studio 5000, RSLinx Classic, CCW, and HMI's is required. A live demonstration of skills will be part of the interviewing process.
• In addition, experience with setting up motor controls and VFD's is preferred. Candidates with Siemens PLC experience will also be considered.
• Holds or is able to obtain a valid Ohio State Board of Education Adult Education Permit.
• Meets all mandated health screening requirements.
• Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment. Able to successfully pass a BCI/FBI background check.
• Maintains compliance with drug‑free workplace rules, Board policies, and other applicable procedures/guidelines.
• Prior teaching experience preferred.

Salary

Appropriate placement on the Adult Education Intermittent/Hourly Salary Schedule to be determined by education and experience. Compensation is $26.00 per hour, on an as-needed basis. Maximum 839 working hours in an academic year. One-year contract with opportunity for renewal.

State Teachers Retirement System and Worker's Compensation offered. Upon hire, additional benefits may be offered depending upon hours worked, job classification, and placement on the Upper Valley Career Center Salary Schedule. Some benefits are a shared cost between the employee and the Board of Education.

Performance Evaluation

Job performance is evaluated according to policy provisions and contractual agreements adopted by the Upper Valley Career Center.
