Job summary

Denton County Friends of the Family seeks a compassionate Advocate to join its Legal Advocacy team in Texas. The role provides legal advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning and information/referrals to victims of relationship violence and sexual assault.

The ideal candidate has strong organizational and communication skills and an understanding of related issues. The Advocate collaborates with agencies, assists with protective orders, and coordinates with local attorneys for pro bono

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Understanding of relationship violence and sexual assault issues.

Responsibilities

• Assess client needs and connect each client to resources and agency programs.
• Prepare and maintain a service plan with each client.
• Provide legal advocacy and accompaniment.
• Collaborate and act as a liaison with various organizations and agencies (CPS, Law Enforcement, DA, etc.).
• Assist clients in filing emergency and final protective orders and restraining orders.
• Collaborate with local attorneys to provide pro bono legal representation.
• Assist clients with crime victims’ compensation claims.
• Maintain client files and records with confidentiality with accurate and complete documentation.
• Collect and report statistical data reflecting the services provided in a timely manner.
• Participate in DCFOF staff and education meetings as requested.

We are looking for a compassionate and team-orientated Advocate to join our Legal Advocacy team, providing legal advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning and information/referrals to victims of relationship violence and sexual assault. The ideal candidate would have excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills and a drive to help others.

Primary Functions

• Assess client needs and connect each client to resources and agency programs
• Prepare and maintain a service plan with each client
• Provide legal advocacy and accompaniment
• Collaborate and act as a liaison with various other organizations and agencies (CPS, Law Enforcement, DA, etc.) to meet the needs of clients
• Assist clients in filing emergency and final protective orders and restraining orders

Preferences

• Excellent oral and written Spanish highly preferred
