Job summary

Denton County Friends of the Family is seeking a compassionate Crisis Services Advocate to join the Crisis Services team. You will handle crisis intakes, walk-ins, safety planning, and information/referrals, and respond to the 24/7 crisis line.

You must participate in on-call rotation for SAT response and coordinate with hospitals and law enforcement as needed. Reports to the Crisis Services Coordinator and supervises volunteers and interns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field.
• Excellent oral and written Spanish.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated understanding of relationship violence, sexual assault, and trauma-informed interventions.
• Experience providing crisis intervention or working in a crisis response environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide crisis intervention and safety planning for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
• Conduct agency intakes, including needs and risk assessments, service planning, and shelter eligibility screening.
• Respond to crisis line calls, walk-in clients, and Survivors’ Advocacy Team (SAT) response needs, providing crisis intervention, information, and referrals.
• Support SAT response, including coordination and dispatch to hospitals and law enforcement agencies as needed.
• Assess client needs and connect clients to resources, including agency programs and community services.
• Provide information and education on protective orders, crime victims’ compensation, and agency services.
• Coordinate with external partners, including mobile crisis units, to support client safety.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential client records and documentation.

We are looking for a compassionate and team-orientated Crisis Services Advocate to join our Crisis Services team providing crisis service delivery, including agency Intakes, walk-in services, needs assessments, safety planning, information and referrals, assessing level of risk, providing information about crime victim’s rights and agency services, answering the 24/7 Crisis Line, and supporting Survivors Advocacy Team (SAT) response. This position requires participation in an on-call rotation for SAT response.

Reports to: Crisis Services Coordinator

Supervises: Assigned volunteers and interns

Primary Functions

• Provide crisis intervention and safety planning for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault


• Conduct agency intakes, including needs and risk assessments, service planning, and shelter eligibility screening


• Respond to crisis line calls, walk-in clients, and Survivors’ Advocacy Team (SAT) response needs, providing crisis intervention, information, and referrals


• Support Survivors’ Advocacy Team (SAT) response, including coordination and dispatch to hospitals and law enforcement agencies, as needed


• Assess client needs and connect clients to appropriate resources, including agency programs and community services


• Provide information and education on protective orders, crime victims’ compensation, Child Protective Services, and available agency services


• Coordinate with external partners, including mobile crisis units, as appropriate to support client safety


• Provide SAT on-call coverage, responding onsite to area hospitals and law enforcement agencies to provide support and crisis intervention


• Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential client records and documentation


• Apply professional judgment to client interactions, decision-making, and problem-solving in crisis situations


• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development as required


• Maintain flexibility to support evening, overnight, and weekend coverage based on program needs


• Participate in DCFOF staff and education meetings as requested.
