Job summary

Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation is seeking an Advocacy Director & Public Grants Administrator to lead advocacy, civic engagement, and public policy initiatives at local, state, and federal levels. You will support clients, staff, and SAAF’s policy goals while coordinating grant proposals with program and finance staff.

The role requires crafting proposals, budgets, and narratives, tracking legislation, and managing grant applications with internal teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Social Work, Public Health, Political Science, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in advocacy, community engagement, public policy, or coalition building.
• At least 3 years of professional government and foundation grant writing experience.
• Exceptional professional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work independently.
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Builds and sustains a network of engaged community members participating in advocacy and civic leadership.
• Designs and implements community engagement pathways to leadership and advocacy roles.
• Leads nonpartisan civic engagement efforts to increase participation in public decision‑making.
• Advances policy initiatives and systems improvements at local, county, state, and federal levels.
• Tracks legislation, coordinates advocacy efforts, and supports public testimony and engagement with media and policymakers.
• Plans and oversees community forums, trainings, and outreach events, and supports staff capacity building in advocacy.
• Maintains partnerships with community organizations and cross‑sector stakeholders, integrating advocacy into strategy.
• Ensures advocacy work adheres to regulations and requirements.
• Prospect, research, write, and steward funding from government and foundation grants every year.
• Lead federal grant proposal development and submission, preparing and organizing materials for proposals.
