Vice President of Practice and Talent Management at Heritage Wealth Advisors (a practice at Ameriprise Financial)

Job Description:

HWA is hiring an Advisor Team Leader (ATL) to serve on the Sr. Leadership team to manage and lead a team of financial advisors. The primary goal of the ATL and the group of advisors they lead is to ensure that team serves the HWA Mission, which is to elevate the confidence of our clients through Financial Planning, on the way to HWA’s 2030 Vision, which is to ensure we’re driving 10,000 client major-life decisions each year. The ATL will serve as a key member of our leadership team and be responsible for ensuring the advisor team is delivering the HWA Client Experience and representing the HWA brand. As a necessary part of this, the ATL will be responsible for the advisor team’s performance (i.e. ensuring exceptional client satisfaction, achieving critical business goals, including revenue, net flow, and new client targets, and supporting the advisors in achieving their own personal and career goals). To be successful in this role requires a true desire to help people (both clients and team members), exceptional leadership skills, the ability to inspire and motivate a high-performing team, and a deep understanding of the HWA Client Experience, our comprehensive wealth management approach, and the solutions we offer.

Responsibilities and Time Allocation – Will change over time to meet the needs of the practice and can include other duties as assigned by management

Position Functions:

Advisor Leadership (Time Allocation 50%)

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Ensure Financial Advisors (FAs) deliver the HWA Client Experience well

  • Use CRM dashboards and joint client meetings to ensure FAs deliver HWA Brand Standards to clients
  • Use CRM dashboards, joint client meetings, and effective use of specialists to ensure FAs get clients to implement their financial plans
  • Own the results of this delivery in a way that supports the growth goals of HWA

Ensure FAs are improving their ‘advisor talent’ (their ability to provide quality advice to clients)

Ensure FAs achieve their goals

  • Do annual business planning with each FA based on their goals (client satisfaction, impact to the team, mentoring, income, career path, designations, net flows, client acquisition, etc)
  • Ensure the FA updates their WDYWFY at least annually
  • Ensure the FA’s business plan goals are anchored to their WDYWFY and that clear must do’s are established (the things that if the FA does them, they cannot fail in achieving their goals) “We don’t rise to the level of our goals, we fall to the level of our systems” James Clear
  • Regularly review progress during FA 1:1
  • Use our 4DX system to hold advisors accountable to their weekly must-do’s
  • Clearly communicate immediately to the advisor if they fall off track and what that will mean to their goals
  • Perform a quarterly progress assessment that clearly identifies strategic and tactical adjustments required to achieve goals
  • Own the FA goal achievement in a way that supports the growth goals of HWA
  • Celebrate your team when they reach their goals!

Ensure FAs are compliant per the HWA Brand Standards

Lead Client Relationships (Time Allocation 35%)

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Deliver the HWA Client Experience

  • Anchor everything in comprehensive Financial Planning that touches on all 7 components of the CFP curriculum
  • Regularly communicate the HWA value proposition and our 3 core differentiators
  • Use CRM dashboards and joint client meetings to ensure you are delivering HWA Brand Standards to clients
  • Use CRM dashboards and joint client meetings to ensure the clients you lead implement their financial plans
  • Own the results of this delivery in a way that supports the growth goals of HWA

Establish and achieve your own goals as an advisor (same measures as #3 above)

  • Deliver exceptional client experience to ~25 clients ($1M) – equates to approx. 1 mtg per week

Coordination of Sales and Marketing (Time Allocation 15%)

KEY OBJECTIVES:

Achieve HWA’s Client Acquisition with a plan (CAWP) goal

Achieve HWA’s Net Flow goal

Serve as the “1-owner” of Sales and Marketing.

  • The Marketing function will have a leader and that leader will report to you. Ensure the activities within each function stay within the Accountability Chart (Marketing brings prospects to DMs, Sales secures the yes, and Ops takes over from there).

TACTICS: Partner with FAs to ensure their annual business plan includes goals and must do’s for the following:

  • Firm-driven lead generation (if FA is eligible), which needs to be coordinated with the Marketing team (LinkedIn, Google ads).
  • Note: effective prospect follow-up by the FA will need to be inspected.
  • Client attendance at HWA education events
  • Client attendance at HWA client appreciation + bring a friend events
  • All new prospects and opportunities captured in CRM and MOD
  • Provide leadership in a manner that is consistent with the HWA Way, Servant Leadership, Tom Nicolosi’s Leadership Communication Model, and John Maxwell’s 5 Levels of Leadership
  • Provide leadership that is consistent with the HWA mission, vision, and values
  • Use the DOCing model in order to provide FULL leadership, where skills are Demonstrated, then Observed, then Confirmed

Ask the following questions every day:

  • What am I doing to develop myself?
  • What am I doing to develop my team?
  • Am I getting better at helping my team handle uncertainty?

Recognize what are our teams are looking for from us:

  • Do you care (i.e. I see you, I care about you, you matter)?
  • Can I trust you?
  • Can you help me reach my goals?

Have the following beliefs:

  • Everyone wants to give their greatest contribution every day.
  • The 6:1 rule is required for all healthy relationships.
  • Leaders have a responsibility to know and lead from the business data and benchmarks.
  • The only limit to our capacity to reach our goals is our capacity to develop the people in our organization.
  • The only limit to our capacity to grow as a leader is our capacity to handle uncertainty.

“A leader takes people where they want to go. A great leader takes people where they don’t necessarily want to go, but where they ought to be. Leadership is not leadership unless it’s uncomfortable.” Rosalynn Carter
