Job summary

St. Louis Community College is seeking an Advisor, Student Success to provide comprehensive academic, career, and transfer advising for a diverse caseload of students across multiple campuses.

The role emphasizes proactive retention, policy interpretation, and case management to guide student progression from entry through completion. Openings are available at Meramec, Florissant Valley, and Forest Park campuses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in advising, student services, or a related higher education field.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-scope academic, career, and transfer advising to an assigned caseload of students.
  • Apply the Appreciative Advising framework in all student interactions to build rapport, assess strengths, co-create goals, and support persistence.
  • Develop and monitor individualized academic plans aligned with degree requirements, workforce trends, and transfer pathways.
  • Facilitate career exploration through assessment interpretation, goal clarification, and alignment of academic programs with career objectives.
  • Guide students in identifying career pathways, labor market considerations, internship opportunities, and experiential learning options.
  • Assist students with course selection, graduation planning, and transfer preparation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student affairs, and academic departments to resolve concerns and support students.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in student information and advising systems.
  • Assist in new student orientation and facilitate workshops and group advising sessions.

Job description

The Advisor, Student Success provides comprehensive academic, career, and transfer advising to students from entry through completion. This role independently manages an assigned caseload, delivers proactive retention interventions, interprets academic policies and degree requirements, and supports student progression through complex decision-making and case management. The position plays a critical role in advancing institutional retention, persistence, and completion goals.

Openings are available at our Meramec, Florissant Valley, and Forest Park campuses

  • Provide full-scope academic, career, and transfer advising to an assigned caseload of students.
  • Apply the Appreciative Advising framework in all student interactions to build rapport, assess strengths, co-create goals, and support student persistence from entry through completion.
  • Provides academic advising, navigation of processes and systems for all students, including dual enrollment students.
  • Develop and monitor individualized academic plans aligned with degree requirements, workforce trends, and transfer pathways.
  • Facilitate career exploration through assessment interpretation, goal clarification, and alignment of academic programs with career objectives.
  • Guide students in identifying career pathways, labor market considerations, internship opportunities, and experiential learning options.
  • Support students in clarifying career direction and making informed academic decisions that support long-term employability.
  • May assist in the development of resume and cover letter writing, interview, job search, and soft skills.
  • Interpret and apply institutional policies, academic standing standards, and transfer requirements.
  • Conduct proactive outreach and early alert interventions to support at-risk students.
  • Analyze degree audits, transcripts, placement results, and institutional data to guide student progression.
  • Assist students with course selection, graduation planning, and transfer preparation.
  • Collaborate with faculty, student affairs, and academic departments to resolve concerns and in support of students.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in student information and advising systems.
  • Assists in new student orientation.
  • Facilitates workshops, group advising sessions, and student success programming.
  • Serve as a resource to students navigating complex academic, career, or personal barriers.
  • Support departmental and institutional retention and workforce-aligned student success initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in advising, student services, or related higher education field.
  • Demonstrated experience in student case management or retention initiatives preferred.
  • Master’s Degree is preferred.
