Job description

Position Title: Exhibit A – HS Band Activities Assistant
Department: Lakeview High School
Reports To: Principal, Lakeview High School
Summary:

The HS Band Activities Assistant will assist and support the creation of a successful instrumental music program, encourage active student participation in a wide variety of musical events, and work closely with the other staff and administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support instrumental music performances at practices, concerts, parades, competitions, and festivals.
  • Promote an appreciation of instrumental music.
  • Assist to ensure that all instrumental music activities conform to guidelines.
  • Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
  • Work effectively with community organizations.
  • Work effectively with band booster club.
  • React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
  • Support the value of an education.
  • Support the philosophy and vision of the high school music program.
General Responsibilities:
  • Assist in building and maintaining a successful and dynamic band program that provides for maximum student participation in a wide variety of activities that bring positive recognition to the music program, school, district and community.
  • Assist in building and maintaining a music program that attracts and holds at least enough students to perform standard marching band and concert band literature with a characteristic ensemble sound and standard instrumentation.
  • Assist in presenting performances of high musical quality in which groups are well disciplined and make an exemplary appearance.
  • Assists in conducting rehearsals and performances demonstrating an understanding of differences in style among various types of music.
  • Attend regional and state music meetings as assigned by band director following standard approval procedures.
  • Assist band director to give students the opportunity to participate and compete in regional and state music events.
  • Assist with summer band rehearsals.
  • Assist with all before and after school band rehearsals and band events.
  • Assist with music arranging and drill writing.
  • Assist with jazz band and pep band as directed.
  • Assist the band director in keeping facilities in proper order, with instrumental and equipment being properly used, maintained and stored.
  • Assist the band director with paperwork as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents, faculty and administration.
  • Adhere to the chain of command for program/administrative concerns.
  • Other duties as assigned by the band director, principal or designee.
  • Regular, dependable attendance is a critical performance factor to ensure consistent, high quality customer service.
