Job summary

Lone Star College-Tomball is seeking an Advisor II to serve as the first point of contact for students, providing academic advice and guiding degree planning and enrollment. You will educate on policies, state and federal rules, and represent LSC in internal and external settings.

You will advise on course selection, prerequisite planning, and career pathways, while coordinating with transfer offices and campus resources to support student success and retention.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination.
  • Experience working in higher education preferred.
  • Ability to advise students on degree planning and enrollment.

Responsibilities

Job Description
Purpose and Scope

The Advisor II serves as the first point of contact and resource inmeeting with, advising and tracking students' academic progress inconnection with degree completion. Position provides academicadvice and direction to students on degree planning, programrequirements, course selection and enrollment, and schedulebuilding. Educates students on LSC's policies and state &federal rules as they relate to them. Represents Lone Star College(LSC) internally and externally.

Essential Job Functions
  1. Serves as the designated campus Advisor to students in allareas pertaining to their academic progress with Lone StarCollege
  2. Provides individual, one-on-one academic advising to studentson degree requirements and proper course selection
  3. Provides guidance and assistance to students to ensure smoothtransition to 4 year institutions
  4. Communicates and coordinates with College Relations anduniversities to schedule transfer events for students
  5. Monitors, tracks and reports progress on a cohort group ofstudents including success, retention, and completion rates
  6. Assists students in creating their MEP (My Educational Plan)and advises students on course prerequisites, co-requisites, andrecommended course sequence
  7. Educates and provides students with information on resourcesand services available at the campus/center
  8. Reviews degree plans for students, approves/denies theirrequests to graduate, and processes student registrationrepeals
  9. Develops workshops, information sessions, recruitment events,etc. and advises students on employment opportunities in theirfield of study
  10. May work with local school districts on advising CTE (careertechnical education), dual credit, tech prep, and potentialstudents
  11. Advises and assists students in creating and developing resumesand cover letters
  12. Advisors of International students will advise on immigrationissues, ensures college compliance with all immigrationprocedures/regulations, and provides admission advice and counselto International students. They will also collaborate with theOffice of International Programs in the planning and implementationof college wide policies and procedures
  13. Serves as a member or chair of various committees/meetings,such as Graduation, Veteran's Luncheon, All Male Summit, FemaleSummit, Open House, New Student Orientation, etc.
  14. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties asassigned

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably todo the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending;carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; ordriving an automobile. No special physical demands are required toperform the work.

Work Schedule and Conditions
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in aMicrosoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other generaloffice equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimalexposure to safety hazards
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of related experience,or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience assisting students who have unique barriers withtheir educational success
Salary

Hiring salary range is $44,793- $51,512

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all postedfull-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fallin that range is determined by your related experience andeducation. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone StarCollege, the resume submitted in the application process will beutilized to calculate your salary offer.
