Job description

Adventures Program Traveling Guide (Middle & High School) - Larimer / Weld / Broomfield / Boulder Areas
About this position

About Williamsburg Learning of Colorado

Williamsburg Academy of Colorado (WAC) is a tuition-free, full-time online public school serving students in grades 6–12 across the state. We exist to do more than deliver education—we exist to ignite curiosity, cultivate leadership, and help students become who they are meant to be.

At WAC, learning is both rigorous and flexible. Our model blends independent learning with live mentor support, empowering students to take ownership of their education while being deeply known, challenged, and supported. Our mentors don’t just teach—they guide students to think critically, communicate clearly, and grow with purpose.

A defining part of the WAC experience is our Adventures program—where learning comes to life. Through hands‑on experiences, field adventures, and community‑building events, students step beyond the screen to explore, connect, and apply what they’re learning in meaningful, real‑world ways. Adventures deepen relationships, spark curiosity, and create the moments students remember long after the lesson ends.

Everything we do is rooted in our mission: to prepare promising students for meaningful lives as principled leaders. We develop the whole student—academically, personally, and socially—through strong relationships, engaging content, and a vibrant, connected community.

At WAC, students aren’t just completing school—they are growing into thinkers, leaders, and contributors, equipped to thrive in school and beyond.

Position Summary

Williamsburg Adventures (WAD) is seeking enthusiastic outdoor and leadership mentors to serve as Adventure Guides in assigned regions throughout the state. Adventure Guides partner with an Adventure Lead to facilitate dynamic, hands‑on learning experiences that foster personal growth, resilience, and leadership development in students.

In this role, Guides support both Outdoor Adventures (where students earn PE credit through activities such as hiking, skiing, first aid training, and other outdoor experiences) and Leadership Adventures (where students earn elective credit through field trips, service projects, simulations, and applied leadership activities).

Adventure Guides play a key role in creating a safe, engaging, and transformational environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired.

1. Support Transformational Learning Experiences

  • Participate in training on the Williamsburg Adventures model for creating meaningful, growth‑oriented experiences

  • Serve in an assigned geographic area and travel as needed to support programming
  • Support multiple student groups throughout the semester, adapting to varying group needs
  • Assist Adventure Leads during approximately 10 predetermined Adventure Fridays per semester
  • Guide students through activities, lead discussions, take attendance, and support games and programming
  • Arrive 30 minutes prior to each event and assist with setup, cleanup, and equipment care
  • Support adventures typically held between 9:00 AM–3:00 PM and lasting 2–5 hours

3. Support Student Safety & Team Coordination

  • Assist Adventure Leads in maintaining student safety from drop‑off to pick‑up
  • Help supervise large groups of students and ensure adherence to safety procedures
  • Report directly to the State Coordinator within the assigned geographic area
  • Communicate feedback, observations, and concerns to the Lead and Coordinator

4. Represent Williamsburg Learning with Excellence

  • Serve as a positive role model and foster trust with students and families
  • Promote a culture of belonging, teamwork, and community at each adventure
  • Represent Williamsburg Learning professionally during all activities and trips

5. Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in Williamsburg Learning events as requested
  • Serve as a substitute when needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the State Adventures Coordinator
