Job summary

The YMCA Camp Cosby in Alabama seeks an Adventure Village Director to lead staff, supervise counselors and ensure camper safety, happiness, growth and development throughout the camp season.

You will schedule outings, mentor staff, model Christian values, and maintain program quality by planning activities, coordinating meals, and ensuring policy compliance. The role requires engaging leadership, clear communication, and commitment to service and safety.

Qualifications

• Have 2 years of prior experience with children ages 13-16 in camping or related youth work.
• Prior experience as a peer leader or supervisor.
• Physical ability to cover entire campgrounds and participate in all camp activities.
• Ability to positively work with staff from different backgrounds.
• Train and mentor staff.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Adhere to policies and assure staff adhere to policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead assigned sessions during staff training.
• Support all staff at camp and inspire them to be great leaders with campers.
• Ensure safety, health, welfare and happiness of each staff member and camper.
• Schedule activities and help counselors design daily schedules during sign-up.
• Ensure standards are followed and resources are managed.
• Supervise activity periods and report needs to Directors.
• Maintain accountability by documenting incidents and outcomes.
• Assist in check-in/check-out, greet parents, and manage cabin activities.
