Job summary

YMCA of Greater Birmingham is seeking a Cabin Life Director to lead staff training and ensure the safety and well-being of campers and counselors across each village. You will supervise Head Counselors, assign cabins, and uphold camp policies while fostering a positive staff culture.

Responsibilities include scheduling time off, coordinating check-in/check-out, and partnering with the Activities Director and Program Operations Director to deliver a high-quality camp program.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• 2 years of prior experience with children in camping or related youth work.
• Successful completion of background screening.
• Certifications: First Aid/CPR/AED (valid 2 years) and applicable health/safety trainings.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise sessions during staff training.
• Ensure the safety, health, welfare and happiness of campers and staff in your village.
• Schedule time off and manage staff shifts, including weekends.
• Coordinate check-in/check-out and cabin assignments.
• Mentor staff and maintain policy compliance across camp operations.
• Document concerns and assist in camp reporting with the Program Operations Director.
