The Advancement Writer & Content Specialist is a key member of the Strategic Engagement team in Dartmouth's office of Medical and Healthcare Advancement ( MHA), responsible for developing content across a diversity of media, audiences, and platforms. The incumbent is an exceptional writer, a clear communicator and a collaborative partner, charged with developing high-quality editorial content that advances institutional and philanthropic priorities from concept to publication. The position requires excellent editorial judgement and the ability to translate complex concepts into compelling content with the goal of inspiring audiences, strengthening engagement, and maximizing philanthropic support for Dartmouth Health and the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Among other responsibilities, the Advancement Writer and Content Specialist serves as lead writer for MHA's flagship publication, Vitals Magazine. The position reports to the Senior Content Manager and works in partnership with colleagues across the Content and Creative team, the wider Advancement office, and with colleagues in the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth Health.
Develops content across multiple communications channels, campaigns, events, and initiatives, including for web, email, social, print, and digital; ensures editorial content reflects institutional engagement and fundraising priorities and supports the engagement, cultivation, and stewardship of key audiences. Researches and writes content for Vitals Magazine, The Prouty Chronicle, and other Dartmouth Health/Geisel print and digital communications, with a strong focus on powerful storytelling that advances patient care, research, medical education and community health, and inspires engagement or philanthropic support. Gathers information for stories through interviews with subjects and sources, including donors, alumni, students, patients, faculty, and others. Effectively translates medical and scientific concepts for a diversity of audiences. Assists in the researching and writing of proposals and fundraising marketing material. Drafts content for large and small-scale events, including but not limited to announcements, invitations, programs, and other promotional materials. Monitors leadership messaging, institutional news and stories, and stays abreast of institutional initiatives. Writes in accordance with institutional messaging, tone, and editorial style. Edits and proofs the work of others as needed.

As lead writer for Vitals Magazine, proactively identifies and pitches stories that position Geisel and Dartmouth Health initiatives within the broader context of the most salient topics in medicine, health, and healthcare. Collaborates with colleagues on the Content & Creative team to shape effective and compelling communications and marketing collateral, bringing a creative, critical, and strategic approach to planning sessions. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with sources and stakeholders, including but not limited to MHA colleagues, and key faculty members and staff across Geisel and Dartmouth Health. Works with external contractors, vendors, and freelance resources, as needed. Manages multiple concurrent projects to meet deadlines.
