Job summary

UNC Health is seeking an Ultrasound Imaging Technologist to perform diagnostic sonography procedures, interview patients, and ensure safe, high-quality imaging. The role requires ARDMS certification and substantial ultrasound experience, with oversight of exam protocols and collaboration with radiology staff.

The position supports an onsite, per diem work arrangement with the Mammography department, emphasizing patient safety and efficient workflow in a clinical imaging setting.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent required.
• 5 years of clinical imaging experience, including at least 3 years in ultrasound/sonography.
• ARDMS registration required.
• Strong understanding of human anatomy from education or experience.
• Experience reading and interpreting complex radiology orders.
• Experience with a Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

Responsibilities

• Conduct sonography/ultrasound screening with safe, high-quality imaging.
• Read imaging orders and consult radiologist when needed.
• Interview patients to assess risk factors and medical history relevant to the exam.
• Select scanning protocols and imaging parameters based on anatomy and sequences.
• Guide patients through exams, explaining the process and calming them as needed.
• Precept entry-level staff and collaborate on patient flow and workload planning.
