Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality patient care using established prehospital protocols and advanced life support skills.
  • Serve as a resource, mentor, and preceptor for EMS providers and new staff.
  • Develop and support continuing education, quality improvement initiatives, and medical command services.
  • Build and maintain relationships with EMS agencies through outreach, clinical collaboration, and community engagement.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, project work, committees, and community health initiatives.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, providers, command physicians, and interdisciplinary teams with accurate documentation.
  • Monitor equipment functionality, report issues, and ensure safety compliance.
  • Provide feedback on patient care and develop corrective action plans when needed.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, independent decision-making, and represent UPMC positively.
  • Meet with EMS providers regularly to support Paramedic Response Team development and EMS programs.
  • Complete required education and training to maintain medical command and professional competencies.

As an Advanced Response Specialist, you'll work independently in a fast-paced environment, solving problems, building relationships, and supporting initiatives that add value to EMS providers and the communities they serve. Our team is proud of the complete restructuring of the UPMC Paramedic Response System and continues to expand advanced clinical offerings that help shape the future of emergency medical services. If you're a self-motivated professional with strong communication skills, a passion for customer service, and at least three years of combined EMS experience.

This position provides 24/7 coverage with opportunities to work day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts, offering flexible scheduling options including 4, 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts with typical start times of 8:00 a.m., 4:00 p.m., and 12:00 a.m. If you're passionate about advancing EMS care and want to be part of a team driving meaningful change.
