Job summary

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider to join the Inpatient Gastroenterology Service and deliver comprehensive inpatient consultative care to adult oncology patients with complex GI conditions.

You will rotate to support patients requiring parenteral nutrition, collaborate with GI physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, and oncology teams, and participate in rounds and care coordination to optimize endoscopic planning and patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Graduate PA with NCCPA certification and NYS license.
• Nurse Practitioner with NY RN/NP licenses and FNP certification.
• BLS certification required for all applicants.

Are you passionate about caring for medically complex patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional inpatient care? Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our Inpatient Gastroenterology (GI) Service.

Role Overview:

In this role, you will provide comprehensive inpatient consultative care to adult oncology patients with a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions and treatment-related complications. This role will also requires rotations to support patients requiring parenteral nutrition. Working in close partnership with GI physicians, hospitalists, surgeons, oncologists, and multidisciplinary teams, you will evaluate, diagnose, and help manage patients requiring specialized gastroenterology consultation across the hospital. This position offers the opportunity to care for patients with complex gastrointestinal disorders, including complications related to cancer, immunotherapy, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and stem cell transplantation. You will participate in daily consult rounds, coordinate care across services, assist with diagnostic workups, and help optimize patients for endoscopic procedures while ensuring seamless communication with the primary teams.

As a member of MSK's nationally recognized Gastroenterology Service, you will work alongside faculty of the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Service to provide high-quality, evidence-based care to one of the country's most complex patient populations.

Key Qualifications:

For Physician Assistants:

• Graduate from an accredited PA program
• NCCPA certification
• Active NYS license or be qualified for state licensure
• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient APP experience preferred, ideally in gastroenterology, hospital medicine, oncology, surgery, or another acute care specialty
• BLS certification

OR

For Nurse Practitioners:

• Current New York State (NYS) RN and NP licenses/registrations
• Family Nurse Practitioner certification required
• Master's degree in nursing with prescriptive privileges (or eligibility)
• Minimum of 2 years of inpatient APP experience preferred, ideally in gastroenterology, hospital medicine, oncology, surgery, or another acute care specialty
• BLS certification

Core Skills:

• Clinical Assessment: Perform comprehensive evaluations of hospitalized patients with complex gastrointestinal conditions and develop appropriate management plans.
• Collaboration: Partner closely with gastroenterologists, primary inpatient teams, surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver coordinated patient care.
• Clinical Judgment: Utilize strong critical thinking skills to assess acute GI issues, prioritize consults, and recognize patients requiring urgent intervention.
• Communication: Effectively communicate recommendations with consulting teams, patients, and families while ensuring continuity of care.
• Care Coordination: Facilitate diagnostic testing, procedural planning, discharge recommendations, and transitions of care.
• Adaptability: Thrive in a fast-paced inpatient consult service, managing a diverse and evolving patient population while balancing multiple priorities.

Additional Information:

• Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week, 8 am - 6 pm, Monday-Friday, with rotating holidays
• Location: Main hospital campus, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY
• Reporting to: Associate Director, APP
