Job summary
UT Southwestern Medical Center is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join the Heart Failure Clinic in Internal Medicine/Cardiology. The APP delivers comprehensive, evidence-based cardiovascular care in outpatient settings, collaborating with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other professionals.
The candidate should have strong clinical judgment and communication skills, with experience in cardiology or heart failure preferred.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree or higher in Physician Assistant program (ARC-PA accredited).
- Master’s degree or higher in nursing; APRN education and TX nursing authority alignment.
Responsibilities
- Conducts comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations.
- Develops and evaluates patient care plans based on evidence.
- Orders and interprets labs and imaging as appropriate.
- Provides education and counseling to patients and families.
- Supports quality initiatives and clinical research within the department.
- Collaborates with cardiology and multidisciplinary teams.

The Internal Medicine, Cardiology division is looking for an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join their Heart Failure Clinic. This provider is responsible for delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care to patients with heart failure and other cardiovascular conditions in the outpatient setting. Working collaboratively with cardiologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other multidisciplinary team members, the APP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages patients across the continuum of heart failure care, including medication optimization, symptom management, patient education, and prevention of hospital readmissions.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered cardiovascular care. Experience in cardiology, heart failure management, or advanced chronic disease management is preferred. The APP serves as a key resource for patients and families, providing education, support, and ongoing monitoring to promote successful self-management and optimal health outcomes. Schedule: Monday-Friday daytime hrs, no weekends nights, or call.

Graduate of a master’s degree or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician (ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
Master’s degree or higher in nursing, documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
Certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Certification required. Licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board.
Licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by Texas State Board of Nursing. Authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
Current applicable Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association or American Red Cross Life Support certification(s) based on UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
- Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
- Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
- Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate and based on specialty and training.
- Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families, and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
- Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives and/or clinical research protocols through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
- Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care
- Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
