Job summary

North Carolina A&T State University’s Student Health Center seeks an Advanced Practice Provider to deliver primary care to students on campus, with independent prescribing and collaboration with physicians as needed.

You will oversee routine medical services, health promotion, and preventive care, supervise staff, and contribute to student wellness within an academic health setting. This position is on-site with competitive benefits.

Position Overview

Primary Purpose Of Position The primary purpose of this position is to deliver primary health care to students within the University community. This includes diagnosis and treatment of a broad scope of medical illnesses as well as recognition and referral of psychological and major medical and surgical illnesses. Counseling with regard to health promotion and disease prevention. May supervise, teach and evaluate students and other medical staff. Although the scope of their duties varies, many nurses practitioners work independently prescribe medications and order laboratory tests. All nurse practitioners consult with physicians and other health professionals when needed.

Primary Function Of Organizational Unit The mission of Student Health Center is to provide physical, psychological, environmental and wellness services to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University students, facility, and staff. As a health organization operating with an academic institution, the Student Health Center is committed to the support of the educational, research and service mission of the University.

Education The commitment is demonstrated through the participation and support of programs and activities, which enhance the overall well-being of the University community. This mission is fulfilled through the delivery of primary, preventive and educational services, which are responsive, accessible, and of high quality. A strong commitment is made to maintaining professional excellence in addressing the health problems that are unique to this population in an effort to:

  • Minimize interference in academic achievement by health concerns;
  • Educate students toward the achievement of healthy lifestyle as a foundation for pursuing personal and professional goals; and
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and healthy atmosphere, in which student’s faculty and staff live and work.

Minimum Requirements Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education At least five years of experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service focus, and strong problem solving skills. Have the ability to lead an administrative support team in providing front line assistance to campus customers and visitors to student health center. Be able to develop standards, procedures and best practices; coordinate work and work schedules, train associates, monitor, measure and track effectiveness

Required License Or Certification Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, completion of a Nurse Practitioner program approved by the North Carolina Joint Subcommittee of the Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners, and “approved to practice medical acts” by the Joint Subcommittee
