Job summary

Oregon Oncology Specialists seeks an Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join the clinical team, delivering high‑level patient care in collaboration with physicians and supporting oncology programs.

The APP conducts exams, manages treatment, orders tests, and provides care coordination, with outpatient and hospital rounds, ensuring safe, effective cancer care and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of clinical experience.
  • National certification as ANP, FNP, GNP or PA-C.
  • Currently active full unrestricted Oregon APRN/PA license, or ability to obtain prior to employment.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Strong technical/computer skills and EMR experience.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues.
  • Assists physicians with inbasket, triage and medication/infusion support.
  • Provides information and commentary to the care team that is pertinent to clinical deliberations.
  • Recommends options and courses of action.
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; updating histories.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Prescribes and refills medications and oncology treatments.
  • Documents patient care in records; rounds on hospitalized patients.

We do this by understanding the community’s’ clinical needs, collaborating with our physician partners, and upholding the organization’s goal of improving patient outcomes and developing clinical programs.

The APP is key to Oregon Oncology Specialists’ success because they provide high-level patient care as a part of the clinical team. In coordination with and in support of our Physicians, an Advanced Practice Provider provides direct patient care, including evaluating and examining patients, managing patients who are undergoing treatment, and monitoring patients after treatment is complete.

Essential Job Functions
  • Contributes to physician’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues.
  • Assists physicians with inbasket, triage and medication/infusion support.
  • Provides information and commentary to the care team that is pertinent to clinical deliberations.
  • Recommends options and courses of action.
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
  • Instructs and counsels patients by describing treatment regimens.
  • Orders diagnostic tests, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results.
  • Prescribes and refills medications and oncology treatments.
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
  • Rounds on patients in the hospital.
  • Performs bone marrow biopsies as trained and declared competent.
  • Manages chemotherapy and immune therapy toxicities.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Participates in advanced care planning.
  • General management of primary care issues related to hematology/oncology.
  • APP’s will take one outpatient 24-hour call shift on a holiday per year.
Required Qualifications
  • 2 + years of clinical experience
  • National certification as ANP, FNP, GNP or PA-C
  • Currently active full unrestricted Oregon state (APRN or PA) license, or ability to obtain prior to employment
  • Current DEA license
  • Strong technical/computer skills and EMR experience
