Qualifications

  • Specialty certification as Acute Care Pediatric NP or Primary Care Pediatric NP depending on experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • PALS certification (ACLS if applicable) within specified period.
  • DEA license or ability to obtain.
  • Three years of APP clinical care in pediatric cardiology/cardiac surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in outpatient and 24-hour observation care for interventional patients.

This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.

A total of one(1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professionals(either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Responsibilities*

This position will have outpatient and consultative responsibilities. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Participates in the care of interventional patients as outpatient and 24 hour observation patients. Performs health assessments, including patient history, physical examinations, diagnostic tests and appropriate interventions or referrals. Specifically, pre, intra and post operative management, discharge and interpretation of testing associated with these procedures. Consistent with the collaborative practice agreement, diagnose and treat patients in a medical and post‑procedural care setting. Exercises autonomy in medical decision‑making and provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services. This will include managing patients with complex, acute, and chronic health conditions.

Participates in general cardiology clinic approximately one day per week. Participates in both in person and virtual visits.

Participates in program development, protocol review and development, and quality improvement with opportunities to participate in clinical research.

Documents patient care, progress towards goals and maintains complete and detailed patient records. Provides health education. Develops and implements patient education programs. Presents workshops, lectures and in‑service programs for care team members as well as patients and families.

A small portion of effort will be spent providing cross coverage for other Advanced Practice Providers (responsibilities TBD).

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications (NP):

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioners will be considered based on relevant experience by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB).
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • PALS certification (if ACLS certified, must have PALS within 1-2 months of employment)
  • DEA license or ability to obtain
  • Three (3) years of advanced practice (APP) clinical care for pediatric cardiology/cardiac surgery patients
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Required Qualifications (PA):

  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • PALS or ACLS certification or the ability to obtain
  • DEA license or ability to obtain
  • Three (3) years of advanced practice (APP) clinical care for pediatric cardiology/cardiac surgery patients

Demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Demonstrated ability to complete history and physical examination, order appropriate diagnostic studies; synthesize information and make informed clinical decisions; develop appropriate care plans that are responsive to patient and family needs and preferences in a pediatric acute or critical care setting and in a clinic setting.
  • Prior experience in quality improvement and research in this population
  • Demonstrated skill with patient education in post procedural management for pediatric cardiology patients
  • Demonstrated skill with and knowledge of the principles of Patient and Family Centered Care.
  • Demonstrated high level of critical thinking and ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Self‑directed, reliable, demonstrates initiative and motivation to work independently as evidenced by previous/current employment experience and demonstrated in annual evaluations.
  • Must reflect a professional appearance and demeanor and possess excellent customer service skills
