Qualifications

  • Current RN license and NP specialty certification in Michigan.
  • Current Acute Care Pediatric NP certification.
  • Graduate of an accredited NP program.
  • NCSBN-recognized NP certification and DEA registration.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage care of critically ill pediatric patients in the intensive care setting
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret diagnostic data (labs, imaging, and clinical studies)
  • Order tests and prescribe medications within scope of practice
  • Perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures
  • Collaborate with attending physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation of patient status, evaluations, and treatments
  • Facilitate transfers across levels of care, including discharge planning and coordination
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental projects
  • Promote a collaborative, team-based approach to patient-centered care

Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered. NPs are directed to apply to job # 281862 and PAs are directed to apply to job # 281863. A total of one (1), 0.5 FTE Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Job Summary

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is expanding, offering an exciting opportunity to join a highly collaborative and dynamic critical care team. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Pediatric Acute Care Advanced Practice Professional, to provide comprehensive care to critically ill pediatric patients. This role is ideal for clinicians who thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and are committed to delivering exceptional, family-centered care. The PICU Acute Care APP plays a vital role in managing complex patient populations, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications
Required Qualification Nurse Practitioner
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • AHA approved BLS certification and PALS
  • Current DEA registration required
  • Minimum of 2 years of pediatric acute or critical care clinical experience
Required Qualification Physician Assistant
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS certification and PALS
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in an acute or critical pediatric care unit, or completion of an accredited pediatric critical care residency or fellowship program.

  • Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours: 20 per week

Shift: Day/Night rotation, this position includes weekend and holidays shifts as required by the service

Location: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine (UPAMM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
