This role supports education of residents and medical students and contributes to ongoing innovation and excellence in newborn care within Michigan Medicine, with a focus on a collaborative, high-quality family-centered approach.

Qualifications

  • Active MI RN license and NP licensure in Michigan.
  • NNP-BC certification and NP program completion.
  • ARC-PA/CAAHEP PA credentialing completed.
  • NCCPA certification and MI PA license.
  • BLS, NRP, and DEA licenses current and active.
  • Neonatal NICU experience with high-acuity care.

Responsibilities

  • Under physician supervision, provide care for acutely ill neonates in NICU settings.
  • Order, interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe meds and present findings.
  • Coordinate neonatal transport and lead retrieval teams as needed.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and lead resuscitation efforts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support discharge planning.
  • Document status, evaluations and treatments accurately and timely.

Advanced Practice Professional (NNP) Brandon Newborn Intensive Care Unit

Job Summary

The Brandon NICU is expanding, offering an exciting opportunity to join our growing and dynamic team. As a regional referral center with expertise in Level IV NICU care, we provide the highest level of specialized neonatal services. The Advanced Practice Professional will deliver comprehensive, evidence-based care to newborns in this advanced clinical setting.

This role is dedicated to delivering the highest quality patient- and family-centered care, fostering effective communication across multidisciplinary teams, and supporting a collaborative care environment. Additional responsibilities include enhancing educational opportunities for house staff and medical students and contributing to ongoing innovation and excellence in newborn care within the Childrens and Womens Hospital.

Responsibilities*
  • Under physician supervision, provide comprehensive care for acutely ill and convalescing neonates in intensive and acute care settings, including performing advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor procedures.
  • Conduct detailed histories and physicals; order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and present clinical findings to the medical team.
  • Coordinate and participate in neonatal transport (ground and air), including stabilizing patients prior to and during transport and leading retrieval teams as assigned.
  • Attend high-risk deliveries and lead neonatal resuscitation efforts.
  • Collaborate with attending physicians and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, ensure continuity, and facilitate transitions between levels of care, including discharge planning.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient status, evaluations, and treatments.
  • Provide consultative services to internal and external providers, including prenatal consultations for high-risk pregnancies and support for newborn care teams.
  • Support education of residents and contribute to quality improvement, innovation, and adoption of new technologies.
  • Participate in palliative care services and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications*
  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan
  • Current specialty certification to practice as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP-BC)
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • AHA approved BLS
  • NRP certification
  • Current DEA license
  • Demonstrated a minimum of one year of clinical experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with the skills and clinical judgment required to effectively manage critically ill neonates in high-acuity settings
  • Proficiency in performing advanced neonatal procedures and interpreting diagnostic studies
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in a Level III or IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or completion of an accredited neonatology residency or fellowship program.

Full Time Salary range:$138,489- $213,657 / year

Bonus: An employee in the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner role who participates in air and ground patient transports will be eligible for a quarterly bonus of $1000. Bonuses shall be prorated for part-time employees.

Work Schedule

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
