Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Previous EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.
Duties
- The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for advancing the VAMCHS mission, vision, and values.
- The incumbent performs at an advanced nursing practice level, applying evidence-based decision making with increased clinical complexity.
- The NP, a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and certification, provides evidence-based care to a patient population.
- Works under the guidance of the Pulmonary and Lung Mass attending physicians.
- Collaborates with thoracic surgery and the lung mass team to follow veterans post-initial cancer treatment. Manages a panel of patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and lung nodules, emphasizing lung health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practices.
- Demonstrates leadership and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
- Orders and interprets labs, pulmonary function tests, and diagnostic imaging.
- Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions for lung diseases.
- Evaluates and treats outpatient lung conditions, ordering and assessing diagnostic tests.
- Initiates referrals and consults to specialized services as needed.
- Provides patient and family education regarding lung conditions and adjusts care plans to optimize outcomes.

- Collaborates with physicians, peers, and staff to develop and implement treatment plans for pulmonary and lung cancer screening and care services.
- Participates in multidisciplinary tumor board discussions to expedite lung cancer care and communicates diagnosis and treatment plans to veterans and their families, ensuring seamless care transitions.
- Performs direct patient care within the Pulmonary and Medical Care units.
- Functions as a licensed independent practitioner, collaborating to develop and implement individualized treatment plans and coordinate care for pulmonary issues.
