Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after reviewing the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Duties
- The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for facilitating the fulfillment of the VAMCHS mission, vision, and values.
- The incumbent performs at an advanced level of nursing practice, applying evidence in clinical decision-making with increased complexity.
- The NP is a licensed independent practitioner with advanced education and national certification, providing evidence-based care for a patient population.
- The incumbent works under the guidance of the Pulmonary attending and lung mass attending.
- The NP collaborates with thoracic surgery and the lung mass team to follow veterans after initial cancer treatment. Major duties include managing patients with cardiopulmonary disorders and lung nodules, emphasizing lung health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practices.
- Demonstrates leadership and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team.
- Orders and interprets labs, pulmonary function tests, and diagnostic imaging studies.
- Prescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions for lung diseases.
- Evaluates and treats outpatients with lung conditions, ordering and assessing diagnostic tests.
- Initiates referrals and consults to other specialties as appropriate.
- Provides education to patients and families regarding lung conditions and adjusts care plans to optimize outcomes.

- Collaborates with physicians, peers, and staff to develop and implement treatment plans for pulmonary and lung cancer services, including participation in multidisciplinary tumor boards and facilitating cancer care continuity.
- Performs direct patient care within Pulmonary and Medical Care units.
- Functions as a licensed independent practitioner, developing individualized treatment plans and coordinating care to address pulmonary issues.
