Job summary

Astemo Ltd. is seeking an SMT Process Engineer in the United States (Harrodsburg, KY area) to investigate and develop new SMT processes, drive cost and efficiency improvements, and support installation and commissioning of new equipment at manufacturing sites.

You will work closely with site Process Engineering teams and cross-functional teams to ensure a smooth zero-defect product launch, while developing robust processes and preparing quotations for new opportunities.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or other engineering technology.
  • 5+ years SMT engineering experience in automotive/manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to manage projects in a team environment.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and develop new SMT processes; drive cost and efficiency improvements; support installation and commissioning of new equipment at manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate with site Process Engineering teams and Cross-Functional Teams to ensure a zero-defect product launch (0 PPM).
  • Prepare equipment and standard time quotations for new business opportunities; develop robust manufacturing processes for new component types.

Summary

Description

Team: Corporate Advanced Production Engineering

Supporting: All SDV Business Unit Americas Region manufacturing sites.

Primary responsibilities include investigating and developing new SMT processes, driving cost and efficiency improvements, and supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment at manufacturing sites. The role works closely with site Process Engineering (PE) teams and Cross-Functional Teams (CFT) to ensure a smooth, zero-defect (0 PPM) product launch.

Secondary responsibilities include preparing equipment and standard time (ST) quotations for new business opportunities, developing robust manufacturing processes for new component types, and collaborating with Design Engineering (DE) to establish and maintain process Value Engineering/Validation (VEC) standards for both current and future products.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Possess strong initiative to complete project tasks on-time and in-budget.
  • Possess strong communication skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams.
  • Possess strong time management skills to simultaneously manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to manage projects in a team environment.

Beneficial:

  • SolidWorks 3-D CAD modeling (or other CAD systems) experience
  • Programming capability (PLC/GLC, C++, VB, SQL, etc.)
  • Experience with all Surface Mount Technology processes (solder printing, component mounting, adhesive, reflow, AOI and SPI)
  • Vision systems (Keyence, Cognex)
  • Experience with Process Design
  • Experience with robotic applications
Education

BS degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or other engineering technology.

Experience

5+ years of SMT engineering experience in automotive/manufacturing environment
