Job summary

Astemo Ltd. is seeking an SMT engineer to investigate and develop new processes, driving cost and efficiency improvements at manufacturing sites. You will work with site Process Engineering teams and cross-functional teams to ensure zero-defect product launches.

You will also prepare quotations for new opportunities, develop manufacturing processes for new components, and coordinate with Design Engineering to maintain VEC standards for current and future products. Travel will be required.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or related engineering technology.
• 5+ years SMT engineering in automotive/manufacturing environments.
• Strong problem solving and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and develop new SMT processes for cost and efficiency improvements.
• Support installation and commissioning of new equipment at manufacturing sites.
• Collaborate with site PE teams and CFT to ensure a smooth, zero-defect (0 PPM) product launch.
• Prepare equipment and ST quotations for new business opportunities.
• Develop robust manufacturing processes for new component types and align with DE to establish VEC standards.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include investigating and developing new SMT processes, driving cost and efficiency improvements, and supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment at manufacturing sites. The role works closely with site Process Engineering (PE) teams and Cross-Functional Teams (CFT) to ensure a smooth, zero-defect (0 PPM) product launch.

Secondary responsibilities include preparing equipment and standard time (ST) quotations for new business opportunities, developing robust manufacturing processes for new component types, and collaborating with Design Engineering (DE) to establish and maintain process Value Engineering/Validation (VEC) standards for both current and future products.

• Possess strong communication skills to effectively communicate with cross functional teams.
• Possess strong time management skills to simultaneously manage multiple projects.

Beneficial:

• SolidWorks 3-D CAD modeling (or other CAD systems) experience
• Programming capability (PLC/GLC, C++, VB, SQL, etc.)
• Experience with all Surface Mount Technology processes (solder printing, component mounting, adhesive, reflow, AOI and SPI)

• Experience with robotic applications

Education: BS degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics or other engineering technology.

Experience: 5+ years of SMT engineering experience in automotive/manufacturing environment
