Job summary

Genesis HealthCare System seeks an advanced nurse practitioner to assist a physician in the ambulatory and acute care settings. The role covers diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventive care across multiple specialties, under physician supervision.

You will collaborate with physicians, perform routine diagnostics and procedures, and participate in discharge planning and quality monitoring to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications

  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited APRN training program.
  • Current Ohio RN and APRN licensure.
  • Current certificate of authority and prescription authority from the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Current DEA registration (for Interventional Radiology if applicable).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct medical histories and physical exams, order tests, and develop diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Work with a collaborating physician.
  • Perform and interpret routine diagnostic procedures.
  • Perform injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications within scope of practice.
  • Be available for on‑call and off‑hour shifts.
  • Participate in hospital consultations and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and ensure quality care.

Overview of Position

The advanced nurse practitioner will assist a physician in the global management of patient care in the ambulatory and acute settings. The advanced nurse practitioner role will include providing diagnostic, therapeutic, surgical and preventative care, under the supervision of a physician in one of the following specialties: Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Neurology, Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Management, Psychiatry, Radiology, Urology, Endocrinology, Hospice & Palliative Care, Infectious Disease, Sports Medicine, Rheumatology, Sleep Medicine, Nephrology.

Essential Duties
  • Conduct thorough medical histories, perform complete physical examinations, initiate appropriate lab and radiology tests, and scrutinize lab data to establish current health status and develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan.
  • Work with a collaborating physician.
  • Perform and interpret standard laboratory, radiologic, cardiographic and other routine diagnostic procedures as privileged by Genesis Credentialing Board.
  • Perform routine procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, manage simple conditions, and assist in more complex illness and injury as privileged by the Board.
  • Prescribe and monitor medications as allowed by prescriptive authority through applicable state Board of Nursing/Medicine and Genesis Credentialing Board.
  • Be available for on‑call and off‑hour shifts as needed.
  • Perform in‑hospital consultations; facilitate appropriate length of stay, discharge planning, and compliance with regulatory standards for inpatient management.
  • Ensure continuity of care by serving as a liaison between the patient and the multidisciplinary care team or other specialty areas.
  • Participate in quality monitoring through review of records and treatment plans to assure quality care.
  • Discharge planning – dictate discharge summaries, write prescriptions, explain discharge instructions, and confirm follow‑up appointments.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • APRN: Graduate of an accredited APRN training program.
  • Current Ohio RN and APRN licensure.
  • Current certificate of authority and prescription authority (or eligibility) from the Ohio Board of Nursing.
  • Current DEA registration (for Interventional Radiology only).
  • Acute Care, Surgical, Critical Care, or Trauma experience preferred.
  • Required certifications: BLS to be obtained within six (6) months of hire. Additional certifications such as ACLS may be required based on specialty area.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements
  • Routine potential exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.
  • Work on a patient unit or outpatient care setting.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, push, pull, bend and squat.
  • Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time.
  • Good close‑up and peripheral vision.
