Job summary

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking a Technical Specialist to advance microscopy support for the ATHENA platform. You will provide expert guidance on SPM, SEM, FIB, and STEM, train users, and contribute to data processing and software-enabled outreach.

This role supports collaborative research in a nationally funded NSF platform and involves instrument operation, troubleshooting, and development of computational resources for education and training activities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in materials science, physics, engineering, or a closely related field.
Experience with SPM, SEM, FIB, and STEM.
Experience operating, troubleshooting, or supporting advanced scientific instrumentation.
Experience with scientific data processing and analysis.
Ability to train and support users in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

Advanced Microscopy and User Support: support experiment planning, training, troubleshooting, and data acquisition with SPM/SEM/FIB/STEM.
Instrumentation Operations: operate, maintain, and troubleshoot microscopy equipment.
Correlative and Multimodal Microscopy: support experiments combining multiple microscopy techniques.
Scientific Data Processing: develop workflows for complex imaging datasets.
Scientific Computing and Outreach Support: develop web resources and educational activities for ATHENA.
