The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) to provide essential administrative support in Home Based Primary Care. The AMSA will be the primary communication link between patients and healthcare teams, ensuring efficient clinic operations and patient care coordination.
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) will work collaboratively in Home Based Primary Care (HBPC). The AMSA will serve as the first line of communication between patients, family members, HBPC staff in the field, other VA staff, and community agency staff. They will ensure the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic and make necessary adjustments.
Duties
Responsibilities include providing specialized administrative patient support, coordinating with care teams, managing appointment schedules, and maintaining effective communication with patients and healthcare providers across multiple clinics and disciplines.

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
Six months of clerical, office, customer service, or administrative work that demonstrates the ability to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills.

Equivalent combination of experience and education.
Grade Determinations:
Experience: One year of experience at the GS-679-05 level.
Assignment: The GS-679-06 level involves providing specialized administrative support, coordinating clinic schedules, managing communication, and supporting interdisciplinary care teams. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to collaborate across disciplines, organize work independently, communicate effectively, and possess advanced knowledge of healthcare processes, policies, and medical terminology.

Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary, involving some walking, standing, carrying light items, and light filing. Prolonged use of automated data processing equipment may require wrist and back protection.
